Mobility scooters
A scooter offers a comfortable seat and steady control for longer distances: the walk to the shops, a day at the park or appointments around town. Compare models by where you’ll ride, how you’ll transport it and how easily you get on and off.

Before checkout
What to look for
-
Three or four wheels
Three wheels turn more tightly and leave more legroom. Four wheels feel steadier on slopes and uneven ground. -
How it travels
Check whether it folds, separates into pieces or needs a ramp, and the weight of the heaviest piece someone will lift. -
Seat and tiller
A swivel seat makes transfers easier. The tiller should adjust to a comfortable reach without leaning forward. -
Range and charging
Estimated range varies with weight, terrain and weather. Plan for where you will store and charge it.
Common questions
Do I need to be able to walk to use a scooter?
Scooters suit people who can sit upright, steer with a tiller and get on and off with little help. If transfers or sitting balance are difficult, a power wheelchair may be more suitable. An occupational therapist can advise.
Can I use a scooter indoors?
Compact three-wheel models can work in larger homes, but most scooters need more turning space than a power wheelchair. Measure doorways and hallways before choosing one for indoor use.
Are scooters allowed on sidewalks?
Rules vary by state and city. Mobility scooters used by people with disabilities are generally treated as mobility devices, but check local guidance and ride at walking pace around pedestrians.
